Frequently Asked Questions
What is GradeGenie?
GradeGenie is a website that allows students and faculty to share non-copyrighted, academically allowed course materials with other students. Items such as class notes, study guides, prior homework assignments and other materials that would help a student gain a more in-depth understanding of their coursework would be offered on the site. Items such as tests, etc, or anything that would be in violation of the academic fraud and plagiarism policies are NOT allowed.
Why would I use it?
Similar to study groups that have existed for decades, GradeGenie takes study groups to a whole new level. It allows real-time, mass collaboration of ideas, notes, etc beyond the geographic limitations of a single university. Our belief is if GradeGenie can enhance a student's understanding of their course materials, and help them save time, then better grades can be achieved through better learning.
How do you use it?
There are 2 ways to use it. GradeGenie depends on students helping students by uploading class notes in an easy to use tool that will then post the notes in a way that other students will be able to easily find them. The second way and probably the most frequently used way, will be for students to search for the class notes that are important to them. You will be able to search, view and download (as applicable) the notes that will help you study more effectively for your class.
Can I get test files?
No. We abide by the strict academic fraud and plagiarism standards of each school. Besides, if you get better notes and you have more time to study the right notes at the right time, you won't need the test files!
Is there a cost?
Why should I join?
GradeGenie is a free student-to-student collaboration that can help you get better grades and save time studying. And more benefits will be coming soon that you will not want to miss!
Can I get alerts when new files are loaded?
Soon. Instead of having to logon to see if new class notes have been loaded for your classes, you can receive alerts via email or text message. This will be a release in the very near future.
Can I search at different schools?
Yes, but the first search results that will be displayed will be the most relevant results, which usually will mean notes uploaded from your school.
How do I know I can trust the files/ notes?
Many of the notes that will first be displayed will be from real people on your campus. And if there is material that has been uploaded that is not accurate or should be removed, we have a tool that will allow you to report the file for review. If it has been misclassified, it will be properly reclassified, or if it is bad information or inappropriate material, it will simply be removed.
Who uploads the notes?
Primarily students, but some faculty members have expressed interest as they think this helps students learn the material more thoroughly.
If I am a faculty member, how can I upload?
We respect each faculty member's copyright protection issues of their own unique material. If you choose to upload your content to help your students, then you also release GradeGenie from any copyright infringement claims. We also have some future tools under development that may help faculty members enhance their student's academic learning experience if they choose to participate.
How did GradeGenie start?
GradeGenie was started by a student who was interested in getting better grades, and helping other students get better grades, through sharing ideas and perspectives using class notes, etc.
What do I need to use GradeGenie?
A computer and an internet connection.
I do not see GradeGenie at my school. How do I get it here?
Please email us if you would like GradeGenie to be available for your school. Soon, a student will be able to start a local GradeGenie presence by simply uploading class notes for one class. Then they can just spread the word. It only works if you get other students to help students. This release should be before year-end 2007.
Do you ban people from GradeGenie?
Yes, if needed. We want GradeGenie to be a valuable, dependable tool to help you get better grades and save time. We will block people who are caught cheating, plagiarizing, uploading inappropriate or poor quality content, or any other user who takes away from the idea of students helping students get better grades.
How do I suggest a change to GradeGenie?
We love to hear from users with ideas for enhancements! Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know what changes or suggestions you have.
